Description: SAM-e or S-Adenosyl methionine is an important substance in the body formed by combining the essential amino acid (a break down product of protein) with the energy molecule ATP (adenosine tri-phosphate). However, simply eating protein does not necessarily increase your levels of SAM-e. Protein foods that are rich in methionine often remain as methionine in the blood without being converted into SAM-e. High blood levels of methionine are toxic.
